I bought a USB-C to USB adapter to go with my apple watch charging cable so that I can charge it via my laptop but the watch does not charge. The charging cable works when plugged directly into a USB-C port but does not work the moment I use an adapter. And I have tried different USB-C to USB adapters. Does anyone know why?

The USB-C to USB adapter is not compatible with the Apple Watch. You can find compatibility information from USB-C to USB Adapter.

Why not just purchase a 20W USB C charging plug as opposed to an adapter? With the 20W plug, you'll get 20W fast charging, which isn't possible with a USB adapter.
