Why does my music app not update the playlist when I add new songs? It says updated last week when I just updated it now (today).
to fix this problem I went into my playlist and changed the pic of the album and now it says that it was updated today.

Since the issue happens with multiple playlists, it may be best to contact Apple Support to look in to this further. You can reach out from Get Support or using the direct phone number for your region from Contact Apple for support and service.

The songs do show on the playlist, it’s the “updated” date which is wrong. I do not have another device to update my playlist on. When I tried to add songs to another playlist it doesn’t update the date that it was updated on.

Do the songs not appear on the playlist or is it only the 'updated' date that appears incorrect? Is there another device that you can try making changes to your playlist from? Also, is there another playlist you can test on your iPhone? This can help isolate where the issue occurs. If you don't have another playlist to test, create a sample playlist using the guidance from How to make a playlist in the Apple Music app.
