I use the Mac OS native Mail app to check several accounts, including gmail, outlook, etc. When I get spam in any of my accounts for some reason I feel that if I mark the email as spam within the Mail app, it will only tell the app what I consider to be spam, but not alert the provider. Is this correct?
Right now, I always go to the provider's web client to mark it as spam. I feel more certain that this alerts the provider of what I consider spam. Do I need to do this, or is flagging it in the Mail app enough?
Thanks,

There is no way what you do on your Mac mail is it going to " alert the provider." Full stop.
Mac Mail.app uses Junk, not "Spam"...

If Junk mail is not working for you as expected you can turn it off "Junk" in Mail>Preferences.
You have the option of installing a third party spam filter. ex. This will be "Spam" not "Junk."
