Slow loading email content

I have iPad model MLQ72LL/A. I use AOL email service which feeds to my iPad Mail. I use verizon high speed internet. The upload download speed usually exceeds 100mbps. Lately, I have been experiencing significant delays in email content being downloaded. The to, from, subject header downloads but the content portion shows buffering symbol for an inordinate amount of time. It does it in WIFI and Data modes. I have tried rebooting my iPad but the outcome is the same. The latest software is installed.

its gotten to the point of being very annoying. Any ideas what might be going on?
