How do I switch the Apple ID on an iPad from mine to my wife's Apple ID?

Do I need to reauthorize the iPad?

You need to go into your Apple ID account and remove the device from your account. The device will then be free to accept a new Apple ID (your wife’s). Otherwise Activation Lock will prevent another Apple ID from being used on the device.
