editing contacts
when editing contacts, how do i make the edit stick? it keeps reverting back to the old information.

Usually with the Save button.
If things are not working, reboot and try again.
If still stuck, reboot into Safe Mode, and try again while in Safe Mode: How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support
Is this involving macOS Big Sur 11.2 from your footer here, or is this Mountain Lion 10.8 from the forum chosen?
