Good afternoon MickyTheCat56,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!

It sounds like you have a question about connecting your iPhone to your TV, and we'd like to help.

What is the make and model of your TV? Is this a smart TV?

What are you trying to accomplish by wanting the audio to be on the iPhone instead of the TV?

If connected by HDMI, the sound is going to go through the cable to the TV.

You would need to have the Apple TV hardware or Bluetooth speakers to direct the audio source somewhere else.

Great thanks .. I understand while I'm not happy 😏

I feed a Video mixer with my iPone 12 mini. The mixer is seen as TV which is obviously not a TV device. I have a stereo Bluetooth audio set up which should be fed by the iPhone. Now I'm lost .. as soon as I connect via Apple HDMI connector, video AND audio is switched off and routed to 'TV'. No chance to use my stereo bluetoothspeakers while working with video mixer. I'm quite frustrated about .. it would simplify my setup dramatically and could just be a matter of a TV on/off flag. Mixer Output carries audio, of course .. but how to get it back on bluetooth stereo gear?

Hi judysings,

Great to keep care about my little topic .. thanks :-)

My gear is a Roland V-02HD Video Mixer. Audio stereo set is UE Boom2 (2 L/R). All I told so far was related to VLC mobile app fed into a video mixer via Apple hdmi adapter. When I play exactly same videos from iCloud Drive, behavior is completely different .. no 'TV' switching, I get full video monitor (what I dreamed about) without sound on my 12 mini and even get audio signal on my Air pods via Bluetooth (!). I thought I got it now but .. it's still not possible to connect to my UE Boom2s. I hear audio on UE Boom2 for half a second then it's gone.

It tells me that all routing paths are available (programmable) but not accessible or routed in the desired way when I use the one (iCloud Drive) or the other (VLC mobile) approach.

Any tricky idea to have a work around?
