Qi mat problems - charging my iPhone 12 in my VW Passat GTE

HI,

I own a late 2020 Volkswagen Passat GTE and am not able to charge my iPhone 12 and sometimes even my iPhone XR via the Qi charging mat in the car.

Putting my iPhone in the charging bay activates the Apple Pay mechanism and forces the VW Discovery Navigation System to constantly switch between charging and non-charging mode causing an ongoing “ping” sound”.

That’s pretty annoying due to the fact that this is a pretty standard feature from my point of view and should work between car and iPhone.

I had no problem with my Audi before and it seems that these kind of problems appear with Mercedes and BMW cars, too.

Volkswagen told me that this is caused by a software issue by the iPhone and they are waiting for a software updated, too.

Any help on this?

Thanks, C

Thanks - thought the same but VW told me that they are waiting (like a bunch of other car producers, too) for a change within the apple released OS.

It seems to be an ongoing process as this issue is discussed on other threads, too https://communities.apple.com/de/thread/252585075?page=2 and on different websites in Germany f.e. here: https://www.motor-talk.de/forum/passat-gte-drahtlos-laden-iphone-12-pro-funktioniert-nicht-t6982271.html?page=9

The problem is well known and as said in the thread - it’s an ongoing topic that concerns a bunch of car drivers worldwide.
