App store

I recently purchased a used reset Macbook Air. It was running on Big Sur. I reset it to factory specs reformatting and all. When it reinstalled, it gave me Mountain Lion. Now the app store wont open and I cannot upgrade. IS there anything I can do?

Back up your data, check your applications for compatibility, and download El Capitan or Sierra. These versions don't require using the App Store.
