Got a new iphone- do I really need to switch the SIM card from my old to new?

New iPhone- going from 11 to 13 pro- do I really need to take SIM card out of old and add to new phone?

You do not need to use the same SIM card. In fact, using the same SIM would prevent you from using 5G cellular.
