Defragmenting and or clearing my screen of files

As other users have posted above, there is no reason to defrag a Mac drive.

As for clearing your screen of files, I will assume you are asking how to clean up and organize your Mac's desktop. MacOS file management is done in the Finder app. Finder is always launched when you startup your Mac, and by using folders and windows you can organize the placement of any and all of your own documents and files.

Finder also has a feature specific to desktop file management called "Stacks". Using The feature allows you to quickly collect up desktop files of similar types – PDFs, images, screenshots, documents – into stacks on the desktop, thus eliminating the clutter that so many of us find distracting.

Unlike Microsoft Windows, macOS is built on a modern filesystem that continuously defrags itself, so need to give that a concern.

If you have a bunch of files and folders on your Desktop, and you want to clean that up, then you can either organize them by dragging them into your Documents folder into specific folders or right-click on your Desktop and select Use stacks.

There is no Safe way to Defrag the to internal drive nor is there any need to do so.

MacOS has a number of operations it does without the need of the User to interact and keeps the OS well organized.
