New Macbook Pro data transfer

I bought a new MacBook Pro and am transferring from my old MacBook Pro via time machine back up. The old MacBook Pro still has OS Sierra. Should I transfer Systems and Network or will this mess up my new MacBook Pro.

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 10.12

I do not suspect it will mess it up— maybe old cruft comes along.

It certainly is not moving the macOS Sierra along—maybe system Preferences however

I always move everything I can over the past 10+ yrs with no issues.

The most trouble free way to move to a new machine, is using the Setup Assistant on the initial boot of a brand new machine— you have one shot here. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT205749

The second best way is use the Migration Assistant.
