Safari search bar typing really off

I really don't know what to call this. In Safari (Monterey) when I type into the search bar and then want to make a correction or add something earlier in the line it types one letter and then types the rest of the word at the end of the line. I have to delete to the point I wanted to insert or make a correction and then retype from there to get it to type the whole line. This does not happen in any other browser, only Safari. Any suggestions would be appreciated. This was happening before Monterey and I have yet to be successful involving the issue.

Hello Diane1349,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. Based on your post, you'd like to stop Safari from entering in the remaining text when you type within the browser to search. We'll do our best to assist with this.

It sounds like this is referring to the Siri Suggestions, as explained here: Find what you’re looking for using Safari on Mac

If you wish to disable this feature, then we'd go to System Preferences > Siri > Siri Suggestions & Privacy, scroll down to Safari, and uncheck 'Show Siri Suggestions in app'. You can also disable 'Learn from this app' if you prefer. Select 'Done' to save your changes.

In case you mean how it enters in the 'Top Hit' you can open up Safari > Preferences > Search tab > and disable 'Preload Top Hit in the background'.

Let us know if that solves it.

Hoping this helps out, take care.

Ok, so I booted into safe mode and the issue continues. One of the suggestions is to reinstall the OS which I downloaded from the App store. I will try that. What a pain it is to have to retype a whole or part of a line just to insert another word or character. This cursor going to the end of the line after I type one letter is truly no fun.
