Pages spelling hangs

When I select either Edit > Spelling and Grammar > Check Document Now or Edit > Spelling and Grammar > Show Spelling and Grammar within Pages for Mac, the program hangs displaying a spinning rainbow beachball cursor. According to Activity Monitor, the app is consuming ~100% CPU and is not responding, necessitating that I Force Quit it.

I've also submitted this as a bug report using the Pages > Provide Pages Feedback menu item.

Hello Accidental Angel,

Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities. We understand that you're having an issue with the Pages app becoming unresponsive when using the spell check feature. First, make sure your macOS is fully updated then check for and install available Pages app updates to see if that helps:

Update macOS on Mac

Use the App Store to update apps on Mac

If no updates are available or the behavior continues, let's further narrow this down by checking how it behaves in safe mode and another user account. Here's more information on safe mode, how to start there, and steps to take depending on the behavior you experience: How to use safe mode on your Mac

If the behavior continues after the steps from safe mode, create another user account to see if the same thing happens there. This will let us know if it's system-wide or only within your user account: Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac

Let us know how it goes.

Take care.
