How do I import an old music library to my new M1 iMac?

I can't find my music that used to be synced from my old iMac across all my devices, my iPhone, iWatchs, iPad.

I might have them on an old external HD. How do I import them to my new Mac and can they live in my iCloud account?

If you have them on an external drive, you can copy and paste. I just used Migration Assistant to get a user's full account on an iMac, but I migrated the user in its entirety. I don't think you can drill down to a specific folder.

Pretty much any files you have can be synced with iCloud. But iCloud is not designed as a long term storage solution.

Thank you! I found a copy of an iTunes libra on an external hard drive and copied that onto my iMac. Then when it was finished being copied to my desktop I dragged it on top of the music icon in my dock. Voila!

for now I haven’t been able to access the “new” old songs on my iPhone. I have turned sync on but the music isn’t syncing yet.

sincerely,

Deb
