WD Discovery extension must be approved but does not appear for approval in preferences>security&privacy>general.

In installing WD Discovery, a window comes up saying:

But the WD extension does not appear. Earlier replies to similar question haven't produced anything useful other than trying multiple restarts, which have not worked in my case. The problem comes up after moving the My Cloud Home Duo to a new location/new wifi network. Finder doesn't see the My Cloud, and another Q/A thread recommended re-installing the WD Discovery software.

i don't recommend using software provided by a manufacturer for their storage devices. and WD software is notorious for causing issues on a mac. furthermore, if you use such software and then update / upgrade the mac it can render that software useless. at best it can cause you a headache. at worst, it can render your data inaccessible. you should use Disk Utility (found in Applications > Utilities) to erase and format the drive as either OS Extended(Journaled) or as APFS for use with your mac.
