Why is the option to "Automatically hide and show the menu bar in full screen" not available to me?

I've just upgraded to Monterey on my M1 Mac Mini - and the feature I was most looking forward to using was the ability to turn off the function "Automatically hide and show the menu bar in full screen".

But I can't. I go to the System Prefs | Dock & menu bar, and the option is not there. It actually looks like it might have been cut off - but there's no way to enlarge the system prefs window. Why is this happening? And is there any way to turn off the function "Automatically hide and show the menu bar in full screen" using terminal? Or any other way?

Mac mini, macOS 12.0

Solved it - so I'll reply to my own question in case it helps others: I use a 4k screen with my mac mini but the 4k resolution makes the systems fonts impossibly small. So at some point I had clearly increased all the font sizes using a utility called TinkerTool. When I reset to the default fonts, the missing option became visible.
