How can I import photos from iCloud to my Mac and keep original data?

I want to get old photos off of the Icloud and into my Mac unchanged from the original data. Every time I do a down load, all the pictures date the "Creation Date" as the time I down loaded the picture.

Are you syncing your library through the Photos App?

Open Photos

Photos > Preferences > icloud

Enable iCloud photos, and download originals

If you download through the web, the file create date will change but the metadata should still contain the photo information (date taken)
