music visualizer not responding using airplay

I'm on an iMac 27" Late 2015 and MacBook 13" M1 2020 (Monterey) running Music. I also own a HomePod and stereo using airplay. When I play music, i have it playing both on the iMac speakers and the HomePod using Airplay. I also like to run iTunes visualizers on occasion. If I play music ONLY on the iMac or MacBook (no airplay) the visualizers work as expected and respond to the music. If I use Airplay to play simultaneously on the iMac and the airplay speakers, the visualizer runs but does NOT respond to the music. Its as if it can't 'hear' the music.

What can you do to get Visualizer to respond to music when playing on Mac and using airplay?
