How delayed is 2021 MacBook Pro shipment? Stuck at processing

I ordered from Apple website an 16 inch model back in Oct. 25 and it was supposed to arrive Nov 23 to Dec 1. As of posting (Dec 6) it still is at the processing order stage and there has been no update at all from Apple. Has anyone experienced similar delays? It seems quite unusual to me

I ordered a 14” MBP (basic model) At the end of December 21. Arrival date was supposed to be Feb 2nd - 9th. Apple took no money out of my account. My order status was “processing” with no change. On the Jan 25th I checked the apple store and same mac was available to collect from my nearest store. So I ordered a second one to collect. Apple took the money and I collected it the next day. I then cancelled my first order.

so it seems stock is coming. Just going to the stores first rather than individual orders.

Hi iTech23!

I hope I’m wrong but info shared with me by my reseller shows EU orders dating from Oct 20 now planned to delivery on March 26…and maybe your reseller was not lying plainly, as mine received in early January 2 units so it expected the others would keep arriving…it turned out they didn’t and now it’s facing around 40 very unhappy customers like me with a longstanding business relationship effectively or considering cancelling.

BTW Legally if you can’t supply the goods within stated contract deadlines, you’re infringing it, so the other party can consider cancel it and demand refund. If a company does it deliberately it’s called fraud. There’s a reason why there’s “out of stock”…to prevent thing like the one we’re experiencing.

I'm not sure what the point of your post was, which is why I commented. Sure, be frustrated at the world for causing a delay. But to hold Apple responsible for something the Chinese Government has done with their Zero Covid Tolerance policy is simply outside any control Apple has. The manufacturing facility where custom made MacBook Pro's are built has been closed now going on two months. That is not something Apple can do a single thing about.

So your choices are:

  1. Understand the issues and wait
  2. Cancel your order and buy something else
  3. See if you can find a MacBook Pro somewhere, like a Best Buy store, where they do have 16" standard speck devices in stock, which is what I did and bought one just last week

I would advice (live chat via iMessage) if you have an iPhone or iPad..

1- Download (Apple Store) app on your device and login.

2- Open the app and make sure you are on the (Shop) tab from menu at the bottom of the screen.

3- Tap the top right profile picture opposite side to the title (Shop) on the left corner.

4- Tap on the (orders) from the list provided.

5- Choose the item in question by taping it. for example (MacBook Pro)

6- Scroll all the way to the bottom.

7- Find the section labeled as ( Still have questions?) and then tap on the iMessage icon next to the phone icon.

8- You will now be connected to apple customer service and you can have a secure chat with them via iMessage and they will be able to help and assist you live during working hours.

Best of luck.

I ordered a custom M1 Max from a a reseller as well. I ordered my on Oct 31st and I was initially told it would be delivered the first week in December (4-6 weeks). When that week passed I contacted my reseller and they said the ship date had slipped to Dec. 31st. but could not give me a reason why. Then when Dec. 31st passed I called the reseller again and they said that it would ship by Jan.31st. Last week I received an email with the tracking number, so it did finally ship. I was angered (maybe annoyed is a better word) for the delays, but the reseller was updating be with information they were getting from Apple. There's no reason why other resellers cannot update people on expected delivery dates (versus simply saying next week). Apple has that information and does share it with the resellers if they ask, or at least they did in my case. One more comment, people who are ordering base models will tend to get their systems sooner as most manufactures have multiple production streams where they manufacture 10x or more base systems so they can replace stock in retail stores. For example, they might have 10 automated production lines making each base model and only one production line producing custom orders. Thus, Apple can fulfill base model orders quicker.

Wow I’m sorry to hear all this stories here :/ I was exactly same situation after 15 weeks, premium reseller, I finally was able to cancel my order and got a base model 16” 10/32 32 1tb, try looking always on Amazon they often have computer sure not the specs we initially ordered, the worst part is that they always tell that it comes next week next month so we always waited and impossible to plan anything like this. After now testing my computer I can say 32 gb ram is totally enough for almost anyone, if you have a chance to get a 32gb version it’s totally enough, don’t wait any longer because you think you may need 64gb, I work with very heavy programs and works so well, 64gb im not even sure where this should increase the performance right now, you have to work on so giant files to get anything out of this, I think m1 max can’t really push all that ram enough to justify 64, maybe once a month you benefit from it but the money and time losing without computer it’s much worst, and to wait another 3-4 months not worth then almost comes out m2 Max. Wish you all good luck hopefully you can also find some solution very soon :))

I ordered a 14in MackBook pro MAX, 10-core, 32-core GPU with 64GB of memory and 2TB SSD on Feb 7th and was notified that the expected delivery date was late March to early April, ordered it anyway. I was on the Canadian Apple store site this morning looking at the same configuration and there were a number of stores in the city that had them in stock, placed another order and picked up at the store this morning, cancelled my original order. It appears that the local stores are getting a trickle of units into stock including the higher end units so if you ordered via the Apple site I would be continuing to check local stock.

Fair enough. But just what is complaining to only other users on a user to user only forum going to get you? Nothing. Apple isn't here. You aren't expressing your angst with Apple. You are speaking only with other users.

Call Apple and let them know how you feel. But their order system has been as you see it now for some time. An order is placed and that order stays in Processing until the item is ready to ship. It doesn't change until the moment the item is ready to ship. And once shipped, it updates with Shipped and you get a tracking number.

There's really nothing else to know. I understand you feel you are owed some extra consideration from Apple. You're just going to see what the system is capable of showing you. And if the shipping date slips, from situations outside Apple's control, you'll see your estimated arrival date slip accordingly.

Small update: So yesterday, with only “10 days left” until my 16” 24gpu M1 Max with 2tb drive was scheduled to be delivered, I yet again had apple pre-Authorize the funds from my account, only for its delivery date to be pushed back once again. However now instead of just a month, 52 more days. To recap: I ordered February 25th, with a delay estimate of about 4 weeks, then it was pushed back to mid April, then mid May, now JULY. This is frustrating. I can’t cancel the order, I need it for work. Plus I’m not loosing my place in line.

I called Apple and politely expressed my frustration. The girl on the other end did her job, expressing genuine empathy and alignment to my situation. She even went so far to look up faster options to help get me any 16” M1 Max with a 2tb drive or greater. Sadly nothing at either of my two local apple stores or online could be configured with anything quicker than a mid July delivery date. To my surprise, she did credit an extra $150 back to my original purchase card.

Some Apple news sites are reporting that lockdowns have started to lift and work has resumed at the dedicated factory (“Quantus? Quan… whatever its called) that produces the higher end MacBookPros. Im not sure if that’s true, but at least that, and a billing credit helps the wait.

I ordered a customized MBP 16 Inch M1 Max with 64 GB Unified Memory and 2TB SSD on November 7th and did not receive it on my front door until December 22nd. Once I received my notification it was shipped, it showed it was in China for almost a week (via DHL). I heard it’s taking longer now because they have shut down the city in China that makes the chips but can’t confirm. It’s a great computer and I know there is a high demand for them. My friend ordered in on December 28th after seeing mine and she won’t get hers until March…

Citing "Elapsed time" as the issue shows a clear misunderstanding of the process of building, testing, and delivering computers to you.

In any manufacturing process, shortage of any needed component stops the clock until that part can be obtained, installed, tested, and shipped. Your delivery dates slips one day for every day the part is not available.

At this writing, the entire province in China that contains the worlds two largest memory suppliers is on strict lockdown. No one goes to work. No parts are being delivered. No HIGH-END Macs are being assembled, tested, or delivered.

You are being far too rational and logical.

I wanted to share an update. I received my Macbook Pro on Friday January 14th. I am not sure putting in a ticket with both DHL and Apple made a difference, but that is what I had to do. Now I feel bad that you all have been waiting longer than I did. So on January 13th, a day after my last post on here, the package showed up at the Los Angeles hub and it flew into San Francisco the next morning and was on a truck and delivered in the afternoon. My complaint was about the baffling statuses by DHL and my suggestion is that they improve the status messages and have access to real human beings. I was able to access a human being on Apple chat at least who told me that if my item is lost they would have one on order that would have arrived by February 7-14th. I am hoping that this update will give you hope.

I remember in early December that I contemplated ordering from B&H and decided to buy directly with Apple, now I am glad I didn't. It did lure me with an earlier arrival time, but I worried about having to deal with yet another place that Apple and DHL/FedEx could blame if it did not come. I have to make a mental note to buy directly from Apple when it is a relatively new/popular item. For the record, I got a Macbook Pro 14inch, 32 GB, 10 core, 16 GPU, 1TB storage. I wish you all the luck in the world and thank you for being there.
