Battery health

I purchased a refurbished phone from a website of a well known brand (who used a third party to provide) in September this year and it arrived with a battery health of 84%.

However less than two months on I had issues with it not holding charge and began monitoring the health, by this stage it had already dropped to 73%, I have continued monitoring this and it dropped a staggering 16% in a single day and now stands at 50% and I’m having the run around with the companies in question. I don’t have an Apple store local and they’re saying (the company who provided the handset) if I take it to a 3rd party my warranty would void, so I’m kind of stuck as to what to do, does anyone know if warranty’s cover this kind of issue or am I best still approaching Apple? I’m back using my old handset as a result 😩

Things like "Amazon Renewed" or whatever awful attempts at refurbishing can be anything from a quick polish to a full battery and screen replacement.

It doesn't sound like the battery was replaced by them but if you do take it to an Apple Store they can check if it has been tapered with and if not they can fit a new battery for between $49 and $69.

Any battery below 80% needs urgent replacement. If the vendor will not do that then just go to Apple and get a proper job done, assuming they have not opened the phone themselves. If they have you need to go to a thoird party high street repair shop.

Your warranty that you are worried about voiding does not sound like it is worth the paper it is written on if they do not replace the battery.

Note that since Apple does not sell OEM parts outside of their own Authorized service provider network, Apple is unlikely to service that device for you. If it has non-OEM parts, they won’t touch it.

A third party refurbished or renewed device only has whatever warranty the company that did the work or the company selling the device offers. Since it’s not a retail new device, they don’t have to offer much of anything. Amazon refurbished devices do come with an Amazon warranty. But some third party places don’t offer much support at all.

Since you’re battery health app appears to be working, they may have either left the original battery in the device, or put in a used, salvaged OEM battery. Either way, that device did not come with a new battery.
