I have a 2011 Chevy Equinox. My Apple Music isn't playing and I think it has something to with this new update. It's been fine for years being played through USB, but the very next day after I updated to 15.1.1 my phone hasn't played music. The USB do charge phone, just no music.

First, confirm you're connecting your iPhone to the car with a known-good Apple cable.
Also, check if you see any songs listed in Settings > General > About > Songs.
Finally, try downloading music from your purchased section of iTunes and see if that plays as expected: Redownload music

I spoke with a Apple Rep and they discussed the same options you listed. I tried all three plus more and none of those worked, unfortunately. I even tried calling to see if my car stereo needed updating, which they said it wasn’t needed and probably has nothing to do with why my music on my phone isn’t playing through USB.
I canceled my Apple Music yesterday. No need to pay for something I can’t use in my car. And I’m about to cancel Apple altogether. There are so many complaints about this matter from not just Chevy owners, but other car owners as well. Yet, when you call, they still act as if they have absolutely no idea about the problem.
Same! No issues for years, and all the sudden a few days ago it just stopped working. Have tried multiple genuine Apple cables, resetting all devices and connections and still no change. My phone is charging so the cable is working but I am getting an “unsupported ver” blinking message on dashboard (Honda, Crosstour). This is new.
My 2013 Chevy Equinox did the same thing. One day it worked fine, after the update it quit working. Bluetooth works fine, charging as normal…everything but playing music through the usb. Beyond frustrating.
Same! 2010 GMC Terrain and the day after I update to 15.1 I can’t play music when connecting through USB on my car.
I have a 2013 Chevy equinox and it’s doing the same thing. It’s annoying when I need to charge my phone because now I can’t listen to my music. I wish I could uninstall this update.
