Keep getting logged out of Messages

Ever since I updated to the latest ioS, I keep getting logged out of the Messages app. I turn phone on/off and toggle the switch in settings, but it still keeps logging me out—sometimes 2 or 3 times per day. Please tell me how to permanently fix this issue rather than the inconvenient repetitive steps of turning phone on/off or flipping the toggle switch. I never had this problem in the past. It just started happening after I updated to 15.0 and 15.1 iOS.

It says, “iMessage is signed out. An error occurred and your account (insert phone number here) is signed out of iMessage. You may miss messages as a result. Please go to settings to address the issue.” It gives links to Ignore or go to Settings. If I click ignore and type a message, I get the red “not delivered” error message after I click send. If I click Settings, I see the iMessage toggle switch needs to be turned on. I turn it on, but hours later, it’s been automatically turned off, so I have to repeat the process. Turning phone off/on doesn’t remedy the situation because it happens again hours later or maybe a couple of days later.

The other issue I’ve noticed involves the mail app. When I used to click on it (before updating to iOS 15), it would have recent messages showing. Now it may have last week’s messages on top or even messages from 2020 on top. I have to click “Back” and tap on messages again to get most recent to load. That just started happening after I updated to iOS 15. I’m now on 15.2 with most recent updates, but there are still issues with Mail and iMessage. Those updates didn’t help at all.

Thanks for your help.

  1. no problems with other features except for Mail app
  2. yes, there are problems with text and iMessage since I downloaded the latest iOS. I get the error message I posted above that says I’ve been logged out of messages. When I go to settings and flip the toggle switch, I can send messages.
  3. Yes—no problems on my phone carrier’s end. All people on my phone plan have iPhones (newest model) and they haven’t experienced this issue at all. Phone carrier rep suggested this could be Apple’s way of trying to get me to upgrade my phone.

Hello appleshopper,

While we want to focus on the issue for which this post was made, you can make another post for the issue with Mail.

Just in case, here's the link to reach out to Apple about your Mail issue: Get Support

Let's now continue with the issue you're having with Messages. We wanted to confirm a few things that were unclear so far in the details you've provided:

  1. Any issues with staying signed into other features? For example: iTunes and App Stores, iCloud, etc.
  2. Are you having any issue with sending regular SMS(green) text messages?
  3. Have you contacted your carrier to see if there's anything possibly causing this from their end?

Cheers!

Hey there appleshopper,

As you're having issues with sending SMS(green) texts, this would first have be to resolved in order to resolve the issue with iMessage(blue) texts.

You mentioned trying some steps already, but we recommend trying the remaining steps in this link as you're still having issues not only sending iMessages, but also SMS messages: If you can't send or receive messages on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

If you still have issues afterwards, we recommend contacting Apple next. Here's the link again just in case: Get Support

Have a good one!
