RE: External storage ideas for mac mini

I have a mac mini M1 and am getting my system set up. Since I am not doing high end video editing or music editing I can move project from my 1TB HD back to storage. I have some stuff stored on some older WD and Seagate drives. I have to admit that these drives are about or over 10 years old. Anyway, I am semi retiring my 2009 Mac Pro. I am going to keep it to run an older sound card. It has 3 drives in the other 3 bays. These drives have projects as well as music and photos.

I am looking for better ideas on how to backup and access my data.

To have access on the mini, (and even my Mac Book Pro)

  1. Should I transfer each drive over to SSD and allow them to remain connected via Thunderbolt?
  2. Or should I consider a RAID array? I have about 4TB of info. I also have an older 2TB my book live that is going on 10 years. It is holding a lot of data, time machine data and disk images for software.
  3. Should I consider the iCloud plus plan for my 2TB My Book Live. Would that be efficient for backing up and retrieving data very quickly?
  4. Would it even be better to go with 2 iCloud plans?

Mac mini 2018 or later
