I recently got my iPhone 8 Plus second hand. I was playing music on it when the music randomly stopped. The screen had gone black and wouldn't turn back on. I charged it, even though I knew it wasn't flat since it had been on approximately 40%. I did some research and tried a hard reset and a reset connected to my laptop. It still hasn't turned on. Does anyone know why this happened and if it is fixable??

The symptoms could indicate a dead battery. You said that you charged it. Did it actually charge? See this:

Otherwise, the steps in this link should work:

You said that you connected it to your computer. What happened? See this:
If your computer doesn't recognize your iPhone, iPad, or iPod
If it really does seem to be dead, return it and get your money back.
