I access my Verizon email account thru AOL and now getting emails from AOL stating they will no longer support 3rd party email as of Dec. 20, 2021. I thought it was bogus or spam but I don’t know!

This is correct. Verizon is increasing the security of their email service by using Yahoo now. And will stop supporting the old sign methods. You will be able to continue accessing your Verizon email the same, but will need to generate an App specific password when using non Yahoo apps to check your email.

Many third-party Mail providers now use App Specific Passwords to access IMAP or POP3 mailboxes.

If you need to generate an App Specific Password, you’ll need to log-in to your Mail Providers account management webpage - using a web browser - and generate the Password from the appropriate account security page.
