I have my iPad set up to automatically back up iCloud but it never does every time I reach for it I get a message this iPad has not been backed up for x

I have my iPad set up to automatically back up iCloud but it never does every time I reach for it I get a message this iPad has not been backed up for x days or x weeks Back up it’s turned on in settings screen is locked

iPad, iPadOS 14

Your initial iCloud backup must be triggered manually:

Settings > [Your Name / AppleID] > iCloud Backup >

  • iCloud Backup - set to ON
  • Tap Back Up Now


After your initial iCloud backup, if configured to backup automatically, the backup will occur without manual intervention. Automatic backup will occur if more than 24 hours have elapsed since the last backup and your iPad is both locked and connected to its Power Adapter.
