Mini pad not auto backing up

I have checked all settings but my mini iPad 6th gen will not automatically back up to iCloud despite being locked, connected to power and good wifi - any suggestions?

Presumably you have checked that you have adequate available iCloud storage for the backup?

Next, the automatic backup will only run after the device backup has, for the first time, been initiated manually:

Settings > [Your Name / AppleID] > iCloud > iCloud Backup >

  • iCloud Backup - set to ON
  • Back Up Now

After the initial manual backup, an automatic backup will only occur if more than 24hrs have elapsed since the last backup - and only then in the conditions that you have already outlined.

If set-up correctly as described, if the automatic backup is still not executing as expected, your first action should be to perform a manual backup. If this does not resolve the issue, try a forced restart of the iPad - as doing so will often resolve an isolated software issue:

  • On an iPad with a Home button: Press and hold the top button and the Home button at the same time. When the Apple logo appears, release both buttons.
  • On other iPad models: Press and quickly release the volume up button, press and quickly release the volume down button, then press and hold the top button. When the Apple logo appears, release the button.
