imac 27 2019 upgrade

Hi everyone,

I want to upgrade my iMac 27" 2019 cpu from i5 9600k to i9 3.6 GHz Core i9 9900K.

Is that possible or I will face any issues?

Unfortunately, it is not supported by Apple to upgrade your processor, and doing so is an unauthorized and unsupported modification.

Also, if somehow successful, it will also void all in-warranty and out-of-warranty repairs with Apple.

I personally strongly advise against it.

Hello, Sonah_T.

As I understand it, the 2019 27" iMac does have a socketed CPU and it may be possible to replace yours with another.

However, you must understand that to do so will require a certain skill set and tools, and comes with a very high likelihood of doing permanent damage to the iMac as it must be completely torn down in the process.

If your Mac is still under warranty or Apple Care coverage, this will definitely void that coverage. Apple will not upgrade the iMac, and you may be hard pressed to find an Apple Authorized Service Provider who will do the work.

If you are interested in improving the performance of your iMac, a better less risky option would be to use an external SSD drive of some type to increase the drive performance. Very often it is simply an internal drive type that bottlenecks the machine's data transfers. A Fusion Drive setup has it's own set of limitations and problem that can compromise performance, and a fast external SSD can eliminate that.
