Montery Problem with arduino IDE

I just updated to Monterey 12.0.1, and my arduino IDE stopped working. I am getting the following error from the IDE when I try to compile an arduino application. This all worked yesterday, before the MAC upgrade. I checked the files and directories indicated in the error message using "terminal", and the file ownership and permissions look okay to me. Any ideas?

Arduino: 1.8.16 (Mac OS X), Board: "Arduino Uno"

loading libs from /Users/bdietz/Documents/Arduino/libraries: reading dir /Users/bdietz/Documents/Arduino/libraries: open /Users/bdietz/Documents/Arduino/libraries: operation not permitted

Error compiling for board Arduino Uno.

This report would have more information with

"Show verbose output during compilation"

option enabled in File -> Preferences.

Thanks for the quick response.

After I submitted the question, it occurred to me that it might be a security problem of some sort. I eventually went to the MAC system preferences, security and privacy, and added "arduino" as having "full disk access". This solved the problem.

I appreciate apple's dedication to security. Limiting disk access for random applications is in general a good idea. It was, however, a surprise for me today. Are functional changes like this normally documented for users? bryan

I would contact the developers of the app. This page

https://www.arduino.cc/en/Main/Software_

tends to indicate that the version is likely April 8, 20201 or earlier since it says last update to the hourly builds was LAST UPDATE

This is well before public release of Monterey. Thus, it seems that problems could be due to an update to the IDE being required for Monterey.
