Hi-Res Lossless

When I try to listen to albums compatible with Hi-Res Lossless and close my phone, the audio immediately cuts off. When I open my phone, the song I'm on is still playing like nothing happened.

This only happens with albums compatible with Hi-Res Lossless; not albums with Spatial Audio or Lossless. It also happens to some albums and not others. Sometimes, the audio will play normally for a few seconds and cut out 10-20 seconds after I close my phone. Other times, the audio doesn't cut out at all when I close my phone.

This issue happens regardless if I'm wearing EarPods or playing music from my phone speaker. Some albums this happens to include Miles Davis's Kind of Blue, Joni Mitchell's Ladies of the Canyon, and Maxo Kream's Weight of the World.

Is this an issue with just my phone? How can I fix it?

Hello,

Are these albums downloaded or is that happening while streaming? It’s odd that locking your iPhone would have this effect so I’m wondering if throttling could be a cause since Hi-Res eats so much data.

Add music to iPhone and listen offline - Apple Support

”High Quality, Lossless, and High-Resolution Lossless use significantly more cellular data than High Efficiency, which may incur additional charges from your cellular carrier. Songs may also take longer to start playing.“

This could also be related to Low Data Mode if you use that.

Use Low Data Mode on your iPhone and iPad - Apple Support

“Music: Automatic downloads and high quality streaming are turned off.”

I hope this helps.

I am not clear here if you are referring to Apple Music or any other subscription.

Why Hi-Res Lossless should behave in the fashion that you have narrated can neither be validated nor re-produced online. It would be better if you can go to the nearest Apple Store and demonstrate the same and seek clarification.

Also, please try to reproduce the same by using the internet over another WiFi.
