iPhone Photos App stuck on 'Downloading Originals'

The Photos app on my phone is stuck on 'downloading xxx originals'. That number doesn't seem to be reducing no matter how long I wait. It reduces immediately when I swipe through my library, so I suspect that it's frozen for some reason. Any way I can "refresh" the app and get the number to reduce? Should I just leave it overnight?

Photos app Ever since I updated to IOS16 my photos app crashes every time I go on and it makes my whole phone slow and overheat. Once the app crashes I’m unable to shut down my phone or go into other apps.
