Incredibly loud burst of static in airpod pros and airpods

I just got a brand new pair of airpod pros. I was just going about my day, listening to some music, when and incredibly loud burst of static sounded in my left ear. It was so loud that it made me cry out and jump a little, and it kind of hurt. This has happened before with my previous airpods, although pretty rarely. It makes me really afraid to use them. They were connected to my iPhone 12 mini, which is running iOS 14.8.1. I believe I was listening through apple music or youtube, both of which are updated. What could be happening? Did I get a defective pair?
