Forwarding iMessages to Email addresses

Maybe a dumb question, but is it possible to forward an iMessage to an email address?

I’ve tried and only succeeded in getting “message send failure” errors even after:

  1. restaring
  2. turning off Wi-Fi
  3. turning off iMessage mms
  4. resetting network settings

Actually, it is a very good question. The short answer to your question is that forwarding an iMessage to an email address is possible, in a limited way, under certain conditions. These conditions are dictated by the recipients iMessage setup.

  1. If the recipient does not have iMessages setup (Android Phones for example) then the answer is NO because SMS will have to be used and inputting an email address will result in a failure to send error.
  2. If the recipient has iMessages setup AND has an email address set to ON to send and receive messages as one of the options, then that person will receive the iMessage. The caveat here is that the iMessage will still be sent as an iMessage and not via a standard email.
  3. If the recipient has iMessages setup AND only has phone number(s) set to ON to send and receive messages, then inputting an email address will result in a failure to send error.
  4. The 3 points above may not be what you are exactly looking for. The best option, at this time, is to copy the messages and paste it to an outgoing email from your email app.

I could have sworn it was possible to do this prior to iOS 15, but I could very well be mistaken. I can’t find a way to do it directly now.

You can always copy sections of the text and then paste into an email. If it’s a one or two thing copy and paste it’s not too bad, but if you want to send an entire conversation, it could get cumbersome.

Hello Demo, nice to hear from you. I don't believe I stated that the message will be sent as an email. I believe that I have consistently stated that the message will be sent to an email address. I thought that my point #2 was a bit clear. In other words, the message will be sent to an email address however in a text message format. I should have provided more clarity. Thanks for pointing this out.

No, I think I misunderstood what you were saying, so my apologies. like I said earlier, I could swear that I had tested this before and prior to iOS 15, it was doable. But at my age, I’m lucky that I remember to put my shoes on the correct foot, so I can’t remember what I remember. 😱

Thanks for setting me straight.
