Maps switched to walking today while in very heavy traffic & still 3 stoplights & 3 turns away from destination.

IOS15.1 I used maps today to drive to an appointment in the next town over which I am unfamilar with. When I was still about a mile from my destination maps switched over to walking from driving. I was still on the highway & traffic was very heavy. Am I really supposed to take my eyes off the road to push buttons on my phone when I was expecting directions to the destination. I can't just park my car out on the highway and walk the rest of the way. If I wanted walking directions I would have chosen walking but I chose driving. Never had these issues with a GPS. This is really dangerous.

Also if I ask Siri for directions such as Give me directions to the CLOSEST Walmart. Everytime she will ask me which walmart & again I must take my eyes off the road to see that she is asking me which one even though one is much closer to the other which is also in the opposite direction so I again have to look away from traffic, scroll through & click on which store I want (even though I said the closest) and then I have to click it again, wait a few seconds & then again look away from driving to then scroll down & click on Go. Why all these steps that require us to look away from traffic? Why can't Siri just give us directions. With my GPS I could search for the closest Walmart & it never switched me from driving to walking & it didn't require all the steps & buttons that Apple has us do. I would set it & it would keep giving me directions until I actually arrived at the destination. It feels like were going backwards in technology instead of forward. Thank you & I really believe fixing this would save many accidents & many lives.
