Green Tint While Streaming

Am connecting from a MacBook Pro 2020 running latest Catalina to a Panasonic Viera using HDMI and USB-C to HDMI adapter. When plugged in, all looks good on the mirrored display.

But when I connect to a streaming service such as Netflix it continues to display correctly until the "scroll bar" disappears and the show streams in full screen without additional graphics.

Suddenly the entire screen takes on a green tint. Have swapped out HDMI cables, adapters, have updated to latest OS. Have even carefully cleaned all the ports on the computer and the TV.

I can adjust the tint, etc. on the display but this is not a satisfactory solution and the image quality deteriorates with manipulations needed to correct close to a normal color.

What on earth is going on? It's clearly some kind of software/ compatibility issue but how to solve???

Greetings, Michael.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities! We understand that you’re experiencing an issue when you’re using your Panasonic Viera TV as an external monitor with your new MacBook Pro, and we'd be delighted to offer some suggestions that may help. It sounds like you’re able to successfully mirror or extend the display on your MacBook Pro, but when you attempt to play a video the graphics go awry.

We have a couple of questions that will help us tailor our assistance.

  1. Have you checked with Panasonic to see if you need to download firmware or a specific app to use your Viera as an extended display? If not, we suggest starting there: Support - Panasonic
  2. Do you have another display that you can use to test? It may help to know whether the issue occurs with more than just your Viera.
  3. You mentioned that you’re running macOS Catalina and that you have updated to the latest software. Are you currently running the latest version of macOS Catalina or have you upgraded to macOS Monterey?

We look forward to learning more!

All Our Best.
