HDMI not working on brand new mac Mini

I just unboxed my new MacMini and want to set it up but the HDMI port is not working. I have tried all three HDMI ports and cables and none will show a log on desktop. YOu just get two different icons that it switches back and forth from (one a computer or DVD player with a drive) and the other like a picture of a cable). .. I have tried having the computer on and disconnecting the cable and reconnecting. This does not work. I have tried to switch on the mac mini at the same time as I select the HDMI port as was suggested and this does not work.

I have also tried to connect with an ethernet cable to our local internet and find the mac mini using screen sharing on my macbook air but this does not work either. I don´t know what else to do???

What are the chances the port is actually defective??

all the best

A way to determine if you have a borked HDMI port on the Mini is to pick up a USB-C to HDMI cable or adapter and plug into one of the USB-C ports on the back of the Mini and see if the same thing happens.

If the same thing happens, there could be a problem with the LG ports. If it works, then the HDMI port may be borked and if so, contact Apple support directly to get an appointment at an Apple Store or a near by Authorized Apple Service Provider.

Get an HDMI 2.0b or 2.1 cables that is rated at UHD 4K@60 Hz and HDR capable. Check your TV manual for any particular port that is recommended for computer connections, and the required HDMI specs necessary.

Power off the mini. Power off the TV. Connect the proper HDMI cable. Power on the TV. Then, power on the Mac mini. Check System Preferences > Displays panel on the mini.

You had a 50cm HDMI cable handy huh? That’s a bit surprising. Irrespective, you have the right of refund and also free repair, but I must caution that it looks like an LG TV issue. Unless you insist on using the oversized LG TV and not a regular monitor, better IMO to obtain a refund and go for a Windows laptop. The problem will likely persist even after repair/exchange. All the best anyways!
