Having the same Apple ID on two phones

Hello, I recently switched from android to apple with both my work and personal phones. My work phone was the first to make the switch. I had to set up an apple ID with my personal email because my work email ended in ".org" and apple wouldn't accept that. I just switched my personal phone to apple and set it up with the same apple ID. The phones are separate carriers, Verizon and T-Mobile. When someone texts me it shows up on both phones, it doesn't matter which number is being texted. Occasionally I will receive calls on both phones at the same time, from the same number.

Is the issue using the same apple ID or is it something in the settings? My work phone is the 12 Mini and personal is the 13 Pro.
