Choppy and laggy scrolling on MacBook Pro (2021, macOS Monterey 12.0.1)

My specs (although this seems like a software issue): MacBook Pro (2021, 14-inch M1 Pro with 32 GB RAM and 1 TB storage)

I have been experiencing choppiness and lag on webpages (Safari) and other applications since day 1 of owning this brand new MacBook Pro. Others have reported this problem in the past with Big Sur and MacBook Air and Pro models on M1 chips and even Intel chips. It seems to be a software bug.

The scrolling is so laggy that sometimes I will scroll and it will stutter for multiple seconds before processing my input and throwing me down to the spot I should have been seconds ago. It's extremely unpredictable and makes using applications and even just simply browsing the internet pretty unappealing. I've not seen this issue at all on my iPad Pro with the M1 chip.

Does anyone else have this issue? Are you also using macOS Monterey 12.0.1 with a new MacBook Pro (2021)?

I went to the Genius Bar yesterday to inquire about this. I have 14 inch M1 Pro MacBook Pro (16GB), and the service advisor told me that there are "no hardware issues" detected when he ran tests. I am CERTAIN he's wrong. He reset all the settings, I reset the laptop, and the scrolling issue persists. Whenever I'm in Preview, Safari, and basically any document with a few pages, the scroll pauses, lags, or flat out stops. This is an issue with the chip, right? If so, how can I get the chip replaced. Or, will Apple will be replacing the laptops with this issue?

Hey there! I'm having a similar issue as well. Per a senior Mac advisor I spoke with today, this is a known issue and engineering has opened an incident for this problem as of 09/28. Issue is related to the M1 chip on some computers. Sucks that such an expensive computer is rendered pretty much useless.

There is no ETA on when Apple will fix this issue. Given that it's been out for more than 1 year, I'd expect that there's no fix going to be coming out anytime soon. I asked if I could get a replacement computer and was told that the issue persists for replacing computers for the users who reported the issue. They told me that they've added me to a support incident that they have opened for this issue.
