Attempting to use a Hp LaserJet 1012 printer via usb

Hello,

I'm having a difficult time having my macbook pro recognize a hp Laserjet 1012 printer.

I've plugged the printer into the macbook via usb

System preferences -->printers/scanners --> Add printer

The printer doesn't come up in the drop down menu and I am unable to do any search to find the printer.

Any thoughts? Thanks.

Hi,

First of all, you may want to reset the printing system.

Reset the Mac printing system to solve a problem – Apple Support (UK)

An HP LaserJet 1012 (version 2.0.4) driver is mentioned in the article Printer and scanner drivers for Mac - Apple Support. Any change if you try the package HP 5.1.1 Printer Software Update at https://support.apple.com/kb/dl1888?locale=en_US ?

Software conflicts cannot be ruled out when testing printer drivers, so make sure that you have backup copies of all important files (documents, photos, et cetera).
