Trust Alert message keeps repeating

Trying to connect my IPad mini 4 which has iPadOS 15 to my MacBook Ir running latest Catalina. The Trust this computer alert will not pause long enough to accept my click on Trust. Instead the message keeps repeating over and over without end In Finder, the iPad mini icon appears, disappears, reappears continuously.

your advice is greatly appreciated.

Sounds like an intermittent connection inside the cable or at the socket at one end. Have you tried another cable? Another port on the Mac?
