connected to wifi but no internet

I have no problem with connection on any other devices in my home. My MacBook Air says it’s connected to Wi-Fi but I don’t have any internet connection. I’ve tried restarting, forgetting the network, adding DNS, deleting profiles, ran a diagnostic and rebooting the router— nothing works. I’ve called my internet company and they said connection is perfect. Even says that my MacBook is connected with no problem. I work from home and this is super frustrating!

Hi Jyea8,

Welcome to the Apple Community.

It's great you have tried several things to solve the problem!

Wondering which Mac OS is installed on your MacBook Air, could your system need updating to the latest Mac OS ?

and

if you are using Safari, have you tried to access the Internet via another browser (eg Firefox, etc)..

Does your Mac have enough memory / storage space free (at least 50Gb) for your Mac to operate smoothly ?

Is it possible that third party (non-Apple) software (unneecessary Anti-virus, Add-blockers etc.) be interfering with the operating system of your Mac. If so, try again, after turning them off, or use an uninstaller from the developer.

Apple support have a couple of articles online that may help troubleshoot.

Connect to the internet with your Mac.

If your Mac doesn't connect to the Internet over Wi-Fi. (Did you run "Diagnostics" or "Wireless Diagnostics ?)

Troubleshooting Mac Wi-Fi:

A Few Thoughts to try...

I. Clear the Temporary Internet Files:

II. Restart your Router:

  1. Power: off the router
  2. Wait: 30 seconds
  3. Power: It back on

III. Boot in Safe Mode:

In Safe ModeLogin Items do not run at login, certain preferences are set aside, and damaged system files are then reset. So, once booted in to Safe Mode, wait 30 seconds, and then boot up normally, attempting another update install. For instructions, go here: How to Use safe Mode on your Mac - Apple Support

IV. Try a New Admin User:

What happens when you create a new administrator user, and log into it? Do you still get this error? If not, then it is likely an error with the current user. If so, then it is likely an error with your Mac.

V. Reset your SMC and your NVRAM:

(Applies to Intel-Basel Macs Only) Sometimes changes (i.e. Installations) are made to the system and then settings (i.e. Networking) become corrupted, technically. So, reset both on your Mac. So, reset the SMC and reset the NVRAM or PRAM. It might take three tries. to fix this. So, be certain you have the time to do so.

Start With This:
