Cannot Access Child's Apple ID

For the past week or so I have been unable to access the Screen Time report or the "Find My Location" for my Child's iPhone. The AppleID on their phone is grayed out and I cannot access it.

In an attempt to remedy this, I have:

  • restarted their phone
  • restarted my phone
  • turned Screen Time restrictions off and on again
  • made sure that "Account Changes" is set to "Allow" under Content & Privacy Restrictions in my child's screen time

Help! I really need to be able to Find their iPhone and access their screen time report.

Hey there Janelle Beitz,

Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities. We understand you're having issues with accessing the Apple ID on your child's iPhone, and we'd be happy to look into what's going on.

To get started, by chance do you have any restrictions enabled on the device? If so, it's possible that there may be a restriction enabled that is preventing access to the Apple ID on the device.

For help with checking restrictions, take a look at the steps listed in the following resource: Use parental controls on your child's iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support

Based on the information provided, we'd recommend checking for restrictions under the "Allow changes to other settings and features" and "Allow changes to privacy settings" sections.

Let us know if that's able to help.

Take care!

Hi, Chris, thanks for responding.

In my phone, under my child's section in the Screen Time setting, under "Content & Privacy Restrictions," I have set "Account Changes" to "Allow". In addition to screen time, I do have restrictions enabled on their phone (through the "Content & Privacy Restrictions" area on my phone for my child) re: app purchases, and music, TV shows, etc. Are you saying I need to take all those Content & Privacy Restrictions off? The "Share my Location" in the Content & Privacy Restrictions setting is set to allow. As is "Account Changes," as mentioned.

In my child's phone, as I've said, if I try to click on their profile under Settings, I cannot do anything.

If, on their phone, I go to "Location Services" under Privacy, it is set to On. If, on their phone, I go to "Find My," and then I click on "People" (which is where, on my phone, my family members are listed), it says that the profile is not signed in, and that we need to go to settings to sign in. But then it brings me back to the profile on Settings where I cannot sign in, where it is greyed out.

It would also appear that on my own phone, I am no longer able to change/control the screen time on my child's phone. (They still have screen time limits on their phone, because they do not know the password to change this, but I can no longer change these limits, or change the screen time password, on their phone from my phone).

All of this happened after we both installed the latest software update.

Please help!
