Certain photos are blurry when viewed horizontally

I am a photographer, so I like to transfer some of my photo I take on to my iPhone so that I can look at them whenever. The files are quite large (around 50mb each). Prior to the most recent update, I was able to view all of them fine. However, after update 15.1 I have came across a peculiar issue when trying to view these same photos. When I view some of them horizontally and try to zoom in on them at all, they are very blurry as if they aren't loading. I am able to view them vertically with no problems. They load and are crystal clear. As soon as I tilt my phone sideways though, it goes back to being blurry instantly. I have tried deleting them and re downloading them onto my phone, but it doesn't solve the problem. This only happens with some of my photos as well, not all of them. Is there anything I can try to do to fix this odd issue?

iPhone XR, iOS 15

Hi there Mysteryadd,

Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities. We understand you're having issues when viewing some photos in landscape mode, and we'd be happy to look into what's going on.

To get started, do you by chance sync your photos with iCloud? If so, in Settings > Photos is "Optimize iPhone Storage" or "Download and Keep Originals" selected? Also, does this issue occur when you're connected to Wi-Fi, cellular, or both?

We ask because with Optimize Storage, smaller, space-saving photos and videos are kept on your device while all of your original, full-resolution versions are stored in iCloud.

If you use iCloud Photos with Optimize Storage, let's also ensure that you have available space on your device and in iCloud to download the full-resolution versions when needed:

Let us know what you find.

Take care!
