"Up Next" vs. "Playing Next"

On the iPhone Podcasts app, I have an "Up Next" queue and a "Playing Next" queue. They have different podcasts in them, I can't figure out the difference. Does anyone know?

It's pretty confusing. Here's what I think. Playing Next (which you see by looking at the bottom of the currently playing podcast) is the list that you are curating by adjusting the order or by adding new episodes by clicking Play Next or Play Last.

Up Next seems to be some sort of automated list of episodes, but it's not necessarily new ones or ones you've subscribed to. When I look in my Up Next, there are some from months ago, so it doesn't make much sense.
