I am having trouble configuring Time Machine on my new MacBook Pro 14" w MacOS Monterey 12 0.1.

Backup is to Buffalo NAS LS220D0CF. Time Machine sees the folder TimeMachine on the NAS, but cannot connect, while trying indefinitely. Does anyone here have experience with this?

Initially, Time Machine ran for about 18 hours backing up to the LS220D0CF, but ran out of space due to old backups of my 2015 MacBook Pro and my wife's no longer used 2013 MacBook Pro. I reformatted the NAS, and reconfigured the RAID, doubling the storage capacity.

Since then Time Machine on the new MacBook Pro cannot connect to the folder TimeMachine on the NAS.

Screenshots taken before reformatting, used to recreate the NAS configuration (the last two screenshots taken after formatting):

The only setting changed is the RAID from RAID1 to RAID0

FWIW. I don't have a Buffalo NAS. Instead, I use Synology for my NAS's. I came across a similar issue as you when first running an update to macOS Big Sur. The resolution, for me, was to update the NAS's operating system. Since the, TM has been flawless, and my Macs are currently running macOS Monterey 12.0.1. Might be worth a try for yours.

Hmm, that (to me) would indicate something amiss with the RAID configuration that your NAS thinks it has been previously set up for, is either now mis-configured, or (potentially) there is a failed (or failing) drive in the array. Sorry, I don't have a Buffalo NAS, so I won't be able to work you through the specifics. You may want to check in with the Buffalo support site/forum for further assistance with this. Good luck!

FWIW. My Synology NAS is a 2016 model and I have a mix of Intel & M1 models. I would tend to believe that it has nothing to do with the Mac's processor type, but the NAS operating system itself. Again, that's what worked for me as I was about to fully abandon TM (at least to network drives.) (Actually, TM is just one of the backup strategies I use along with third party apps, like Carbon Copy Cloner.)
