Why can't I upgrade macbook OS from EL Capitan to High Sierra or Newer?

I have an early 2015 MacBook Pro Retina 13 using El Capitan 10.11.6. Im trying to upgrade the OS to High Sierra or newer. I have clicked the links to the OS upgrades that have been provided in answers to other peoples' questions. Nothing happens. It takes me to a blank page on the apple website. Are the servers down? What is wrong?

MacBook Pro (2020 and later)

They broke the links. The work-around for the very short term is to use these:

Copy/Pasting one of these into the Safari address bar is said to work…
