When I open the second PDF, a new window is created instead of the same one with a tab as before.
How can I change that again ?
I looked in the Preview - Preferences - Images: Open all files in one window - but when I click on PDF's still every PDF gets an own window. This happened after I upgraded to Monterey yesterday.

You can try booting into Safe Mode, then reboot normally.
Check System Preferences > General > Prefer tabs:. It should have "always" selected.

yes , I saw that I can merge the windows, but this is super annoying. Will this problem fixed with an update soon ?
Well, I don't have the problem on my Monterey installs. Have you updated to 12.1?
I just saw that 12.1 is now ready to install. so I have 12.0.1. but I don't understand why I had to install first 12.0.1. and not directly to 12.1
12.1 was just released yesterday.
ah okay. So maybe it will work after the update.
Hopefully. plus 12.1 has some other fixes.
