imagent crashes when screensaver start

On my iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2017) with macOS 12.0.1, imagent keeps crashing as soon as my screensaver starts. This only happens since about 10 days ago, before it worked fine.

After some searching on the Internet, I disabled Facetime but that didn't solve the problem. After imagent crashing, iMessage freezes and will not restart, even when I force quit it.

I have captured the full error report and can post here, if that may help.

Suggest restarting the computer in Safe Mode Shift key immediately at restart. It will do a Repair Disk, clear system cache files and eliminate all third party software, extension and fonts from loading. The boot time will be slow and is normal.

Run in this mode for long enough time to test if the issue is presented.

Should it not appear while in Safe Mode we may need to further isolate if the issue is unique to the the User account.

This can be achieved via Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac and logging out os original account and into the testing account.

So far so good.

Error didn't occur after turning Messages off in iCloud. Then I signed out of iCloud, rebooted, signed back in and turned Messages in iCloud on. Still everything working as it should.

Will upgrade tonight or tomorrow to 12.1.

FYI - Today Dec 13 - Apple has released an update Monterey macOS 12.1.

That said before embarking on some serious trouble shooting - one may consider the update and see if that fixes the issue.

Should it not - do come back and we can offer some ideas.

After 1 day with 12.1, Facetime and Messages in iCloud on - the error didn't happen again. Should it come back, I will let you know.

Thanks! I have now disabled messages in iCloud and it doesn't seem to happen again. If it keeps re-occuring, I will try the safe mode approach.

Thank you for the support.

Since I disabled iCloud Messages, the error hasn't occurred but may be too early to tell (didn't happen every time). I was thinking of signing out of iCloud and back in.

Will upgrade in the next days and let you know.
