Is it possible to get Apple tv if my tv is not a smart tv?

HDMI equipped TVs can connect an external streaming device with the Apple TV app. Then it doesn’t matter if the TV is smart or not, as that would be bypassed anyway. Such an external streaming device could be the Apple TV box, Roku, Fire TV, PlayStation (4, 5), Xbox (One, One S, X, S), ‘Chromecast with Google TV’, or Nvidia Shield TV.
